This Page Under Construction Hydronic Heating - a system of heating via the forced circulation of liquids or vapors through a set of pipes Radiant Heat - heating a space by means of radiation from heat transfer fluid piped through pipes. Radiator - anything that radiates , low mass heating, high mass heating, base board fins, air over heating coils, etc. High Mass Heat Transfer - transfer of heat via the forced circulation of liquids through pipes through a high mass radiator, typically concrete. Low Mass Heat Transfer - transfer of heat via the forced circulation of liquids through pipes through a low mass radiator, typically wood. Btu or British thermal unit - the required energy needed to heat one pound of water (.12 US gallon) one degree Fahrenheit. Open Boiler - a open to the atmosphere non pressurized boiler for hydronic heating systems Outdoor Hot Water Furnace - typically an Open Boiler or Atmospheric Boiler used for hydronic heating systems Atmospheric Boiler - an Open Boiler or Outdoor Hot Water Furnace On Demand Boiler - a low volume boiler which heats the heat transfer fluid as it passes through the boiler Closed Boiler System - A closed to the atmosphere pressurized boiler for hydronic or steam heating. DHWT - Domestic Hot Water Tank Side Arm Heat Exchanger - a heat exchanger which is mounted to the side of a conventional DHWT with the heat transfer fluid isolated from the the domestic water by the heat exchanger. Plate To Plate Heat Exchanger - a heat exchanger which fluid pass through from two sources each fluid isolated from the other by heat exchanger plates Pex Pipe - cross-linked polyethylene pipe PEX-Al-PEX - is the acronym for PEX-Aluminum-PEX, which refers to the alternating layers of cross-linked polyethylene and aluminum used in the manufacturing process of the pipe. Poly B Pipe - older grey non cross linked polyethylene pipe which is no longer manufactured as it has a life expectancy off only less then 100 years and as short as 20 years if used with heat transfer fluid that hotter then 120 degrees Fahrenheit Ethylene Glycol - toxic heat transfer fluid Propylene Glycol - non toxic heat transfer fluid LP - Abbreviation for Liquid Propane NG - Abbreviation for Natural Gas Mcf - Thousand cubic Feet ccf - Hundred cubic Feet kW - kilowatt (1000 Watts) = 3413 Btu kWh - kilowatt hour
